How does a CNC tie into the other “manual” Departments?

  • Casting & Molding: Carve models for lost wax casting. Cut patterns for sand casting. Machine molds for cold casting. Print models for lost PLA casting.

  • Metalworking & Forging: Cut precise, intricate, or repetitive shapes in sheet metal or plate. Machine 3D components in aluminum and brass. Create jigs and fixtures.

  • Woodworking: Machine guitar bodies. Carve cabriole table legs. Perform multi-wood inlays. Cut precise furniture components. Create jigs and fixtures.

What CNC Machines do you have?

  • CNC Plasma Cutter. ShopSabre SideKick 4, 52” x 49” 2D cut area, cuts any metal up to 5/8” thick

  • CNC Router. ShopSabre Pro404, 60" x 50" x 12" 2D, 2.5D, 3D cut volume, cuts plywood, hardwood, plastics, foam, aluminum, brass

  • 3D Printers. PLA and ABS thermoplastics
    Dremel DigiLab 3D45, 10” x 6” x 7” build volume
    MakerGear M2, 8" x 10" x 8" build volume

How are CNC Fabrication Service costs determined?
Simply put, Time and Material.

Time. 4 steps are required to successfully print or machine parts on a CNC. We charge based on time spent with each step. We are happy to provide turn-key service, or you can provide digital files:

  1. Project Consultation. We need to fully understand the scope of your CNC job before we can even quote it. 15 minutes of consultation are included for free. Additional time needed will be handled as hourly Private Instruction.

  2. Computer Aided Design (CAD) Service. Your idea needs to be turned into a scaled digital design, ready for CNC-output (CAD). This can be as simple as text layout for v-bit engraving, or as complex as a full 3D model for flip milling or 4th axis milling

  3. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Service. CNCs need to be told exactly what to do, in a language the machine understands (G-code). This is the CAM step, and the most technical part. Not only is the design converted to code, but the material type, thickness, type of machining to be done, and quality of output are factored in. Once the CAM is complete, the part is ready for output

  4. Machine Operation Service. This includes material preparation, machine setup/clean-up, and actual machine run time. At CIADC, our Staff will always perform this step for you

Material. CIADC stocks select materials for purchase, or we can order for you. Any material brought in from the outside must be approved as safe for machining/printing prior to use; please contact us for more information.
