OPEN STUDIO ACCESS

Best For: Current Members who want additional work time in the Department Shop(s) during the term

The CIADC Open Studio Access (OSA) program is available to current and former adult-level Students with an active Membership.

What is Open Studio Access?
OSA is supervised, non-instructional work time outside of Class time, and is available to Monthly and Annual Members who have certified for the current term in one or more Departments. All OSA times are in 3-hour scheduled blocks throughout the week and are supervised for safety and proper tool use. Users should be comfortable working with tools and process independently during OSA; new tools or processes should first be learned in Class or Private Instruction. At CIADC, we place great importance on making our space and tools available.

The current term OSA schedule can be found here.

How do I become certified to use OSA?
Become a Member; only Monthly and Annual Members can utilize OSA. CIADC certifies for each Department uniquely.

  • Members currently enrolled in a Class:
Members who are enrolled in a current term 5-week, 10-week, or equivalent Immersion Class are automatically certified to use OSA in that Department Shop for the entire term.

  • Members who completed a Class during a previous term:
Members who completed a 5-week, 10-week, or equivalent Immersion Class during a previous term in one or more Departments must complete the Department Safety & Tool Use Certification (STUC) to use OSA in that/those Department Shops for the current term

OSA certification is re-evaluated each term.

How much is OSA?
Certified Members pay for each 3-hour OSA session and have access to work in ALL qualifying Department Shops during that time. The price of OSA depends on your current term status:

  • Student Member $25 per 3-hr OSA session
A Student Member is defined as a Member ENROLLED IN ANY CURRENT TERM adult-level 5-week, 10-week, or equivalent Immersion Class. Student Members may also complete STUC(s) as needed to use OSA in Departments of a previous Class

  • Access Member $35 per 3-hr OSA session
An Access Member is defined as a Member NOT ENROLLED IN ANY CURRENT TERM adult-level 5-week, 10-week, or equivalent Immersion Class, AND has completed STUC(s) for the current term. Access Members pre-pay for 6 OSA sessions (included in STUC registration fee), after which they pay per drop-in
